CONSERVATION

Madagascar is a biodiversity hotspot with unique flora and fauna, it is home to more than 20% of all species on planet earth

Everything Feedback Madagascar does is with a view to conservation. By addressing peoples' primary needs (health, sanitation, agriculture) we allow them to focus on longer-term challenges (education, legal tenure, livelihoods),  clearing a path to the creation of sustainable livelihoods and better environmental stewardship.

We have been working hand in hand with the people of Madagascar for over 25 years to conserve the forest whilst improving human wellbeing, carrying out hundreds of projects with thousands of people. Our experience and knowledge means we know what the roadmap to success looks like. One thing we do know is that Trees literally hold Madagascar together.  They stop erosion and provide food and shelter for people and animals alike.

Trees literally hold Madagascar together

We strengthen forest protection through the local population.

The inhabitants of areas next to to the forest are organised into community-based forest management associations, and forest management is transferred to them via a contract signed by the Ministry of the Environment and Forests and the local municipality.

  • So far, 67 of these groups have been contracted to commit to sustainable forest management covering an area of 69,000 hectares.

  • We help build their capacity, support the set-up of tree nurseries, sapling production and teach forest restoration and monitoring techniques.

Protection

Feedback Madagascar works closely with local communities to develop sustainable livelihoods that protect and conserve the forest and its biodiversity. Our projects help improve traditional products, increase market access, and find and train people in alternative livelihoods that align with the environment.

We are committed to supporting the efforts of the local communities to protect and preserve the unique biodiversity of Madagascar. Together, we can help ensure a sustainable future for the island and its inhabitants.

Feedback Madagascar has worked for over 25 years to improve human well-being and to conserve Madagascar’s forest. Our priority areas are the biodiversity hotspots of the COFAV forest corridor and the adjacent Tapia forest of the high plateau in Amoron’i Mania region.

Climate change is having a devastating impact on the people and ecosystem of Madagascar, a small gift can have a massive impact to our work
