Meet Christian and his teacher

My name is Christian, I’m in grade 5 at Sahafy Primary School. I love going to school because my teacher uses many interesting materials when explaining the lessons so I can understand them quickly and easily remember them. For example, when we are doing mathematics she brings little stones to explain it and there was a time too when we did sciences, she brought plants with roots to explain to us about plants. 

What I like the most in school is sport because I like playing football.

I have been teaching for decades. This training project has had a real change in my life. In the past, we didn’t use materials, but these teaching materials help students to focus on an explanation so it helps them to succeed.  We think that it turns on the skills that were already inside us because we know those methods but we just didn’t apply it. In the past, we were worried when we heard that someone would visit us for supervision but now, we are not worried anymore because we are well prepared. 

We have also become more curious and now do lots of research. In the past, we attended training but this time was special because we were provided with materials to use in class and the training lasted longer. What makes it special is we can directly apply it in class with the students. 

I think that using teaching materials is key to education especially to make children participate. That last training session led to a big change in children because some didn’t say a word in class but when they saw their friends receiving applause for participating, they started to participate too.
