Clean Water -
The Maclean Brothers’ Pacific row for Madagascar
Ewan, Jamie, and Lachlan Maclean, proud Ambassadors of Feedback Madagascar, have just completed an incomprehensible challenge: rowing across the entire Pacific Ocean to raise £1 million for our clean water projects.
They began their journey on Saturday, April 12th, embarking on a 9,000-mile crossing from Peru to Australia. After 139 days at sea, they reached Cairns as the first trio ever to row the Pacific Ocean non-stop and unsupported and as the fastest human-powered Pacific crossing in history.
All in the name of bringing lasting access to clean, safe water to over 40,000 people in Madagascar.
We have already completed two Pacific row boreholes in Andranambomaro and Analabe, now serving over 720 people for life.
And this is only the beginning.
The grit, sacrifice and heart the three have shown has inspired thousands, leading to incredible support from all around the world, with more than £830,000 raised so far.
This is already enough for us to build the infrastructure needed to bring clean, safe water to around 34,000 people in Madagascar. To spark change that will ripple outward into better health, education, livelihoods, human rights and even forest conservation. Impact far beyond what we can see today.
This remarkable expedition was more than a physical challenge. It reflected the Macleans’ long-standing commitment to Madagascar and their belief in the life-changing power of clean water. As long-time partners of Feedback Madagascar and through The Maclean Foundation, they had already funded 22 boreholes, serving more than 5,000 people in rural areas — where 80% of the population still lacks access to clean water.
“Raising money for clean water projects is the focus of this row.”
“Inspired doesn’t come close to describing how we feel about the team at Feedback Madagascar, who are doing such essential and challenging work.”
“Clean Water doesn’t just improve health – it changes the entire morale of a place.”
The Maclean Brothers have traveled to Madagascar multiple times, visited our projects and even joined our drilling team, witnessing first hand the immense effort behind every drop of clean water and the profound impact it has on peoples lives and the forests they depend on.
We are proud to be the delivery partner of this effort, turning their fundraising into long-term access to clean, safe water for those who need it most.
