Clean water to communities
One of the most important aspects of our work is providing clean water to communities. At the Kelilalina Health Centre, we constructed a solar-pumped water system linked to its new borehole to address this critical need.
The Kelilalina Health Centre serves about 30 people daily and has 4 employees and 4 beds for hospitalised patients. Access to clean water is crucial both for staff and patients. Women giving birth at the health centre particularly struggled due to the lack of water, often requiring families to bring water from home.
We built a large water tower linked to a network of 4 tap-stands: one at the health centre and three distributed around the village. Each of these pumps supplies water to up to 40 households.
Designated individuals are responsible for operating each pump. Lanto, who oversees the pump in the Antanambao neighbourhood, shared her thoughts:
“Thank you for this beautiful infrastructure. It really helps us because previously we had to fetch water from far away, and our water sources were unsafe, especially during the rainy season. I remember during the drought in 2021, we had to fetch water from 2 kilometres away. Now, we have water in our village and are no longer afraid of diseases because this water is safe and clean.”
